Licensed in California, Indiana and Florida, Effland represents clients nationwide in all areas and at all levels of employment litigation, from pre-litigation risk avoidance through trial and appeal. Additionally, he provides training and counseling on employment issues to management in both the private and public sector in many of the more complex areas of employment law, including FMLA compliance, workplace privacy law, and effective HR practices.

In addition to his clients, Effland also provides regular training for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the National Institute of Business Management, and the Association of Corporate Counsel (Los Angeles and Indianapolis Chapters), as well as several state and local SHRM affiliates, and is a regular speaker for the SHRM Annual Conference. This year, he is speaking at the 2011 SHRM Annual Conference in Las Vegas on June 29 on the topic of “FMLA in the Real World.” Effland has also authored or co-authored numerous publications, including a chapter in the ABA book “The Practitioner’s Guide to Defending EPLI Claims,” the “Indiana Employer’s Guide to Leave Issues” for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the “FMLA Compliance Guide” for the National Institute of Business Management.
